‘‘I never wanted to own a business in the first place.’’

Studio Perla was a saving grace for me.

I was at a point in my life where working in a traditional salon environment wasn’t sustainable for me anymore. I’ve always wanted to be a hairdresser and most of all to make folks feel confident and comfortable in their own skin. My career grew, but I struggled to find space for myself.Overworked, overstimulated and underpaid, I found myself strayed from what initially made me fall in love with my vocation.

As a hairdresser, I felt alone.

The biggest part of our job is being social and entertaining this larger than life personality. As much as I tried, it just wasn’t me.

I’m creative, quirky, fun loving but also quite reserved so you can imagine that it isn’t always easy for me to talk to people all day long. So much that I began thinking to myself ; There must be like minded people in this industry!?

(And yes, there was.)

Being independent seemed to be the only way
I could continue to practice my passion and take control of my life but I couldn’t imagine myself being part of the fast paced hustle the beauty industry is about.

The only solution was to open my own little haven. You know, a calm spot. I never wanted to open a business in the first place, but I needed to.

I wanted to create a place where you can come as you are. No judgement, no buzz, no fuss, no embellishments just great hair and even more incredible connections.

And WE did.

What makes the studio so special is the people that grace it’s floors everyday. Whether it be our phenomenal team, our furry friends or our wonderful customers, you all make me the most humble and proud little hairdresser Montreal ever did see.

I’ll never stop being grateful for that.
